The Logan Memorial was erected in memory of James Richardson Logan who championed the rights of the non-Europeans in Penang. Logan and his elder brother Abraham came to Penang, and began a law practise. Logan was a lawyer who fought for the rights of locals, and was an advocate for freedom of speech.
