
This photo was taken during Thaipusam (2009) in Penang, Malaysia. On the day of Thaipusam, devotees engage in various acts of devotion. One of the acts is to use a skewer and poke through the mouth. The devotees will undertake a pilgrimage along a set route to the temple up in the hill.
A lot of people who don't understand the culture/festival call the acts as inflicting pain upon oneself. The devotees are not doing this at all. If you have faith in God, He loves you
